What you will be doing Patient Access Consultants play a crucial role in providing patients access to the medications and therapies they need. They are considered a master of our services including but not limited to reimbursement activities, claim submission, claim status, collection activity, appeals, patient assistance and copay assistance. On a day-to-day basis they may be in contact with various customers of our services including but not limited to patients, providers, caregivers, and client brand teams.As a Patient Access Consultant, a typical day might include the following:
Being a master of all reimbursement activities, claim submissions, claim statuses, appeals, patient assistance and copay assistance.
Independently and effectively resolving complex accounts with minimal supervision.
Analyzing, reporting, and resolving any reimbursement trends/delays (such as: billing denials, claim denials, pricing errors, payments, etc.).
Engaging with manufacturer representatives regarding payer profiles and reimbursement trends.
Coordinating services with field reimbursement teams and sales representatives.
Fielding questions from program representatives and specialists.
Handling initial customer escalations.
Providing training and support to associates on the team.
Verifying that transactions and processes comply with organizational and departmental policies and procedures and suggesting changes and solutions, as appropriate.
What your background should look like (minimum qualifications)
High school diploma or GED required
Requires a minimum of five (5) years directly related and progressively responsible experience in customer service, medical billing and coding, benefits verification, healthcare, business administration or similar vocations
Bachelors degree preferred
An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
Advanced customer service experience
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to build productive internal and external working relationships
Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills
Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail
Extensive knowledge of pharmacy operations, healthcare billing and medical claims
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word
Nice to have
Advanced knowledge of the health care industry is preferred.
